This unit is uniquely designed for individuals whose behavioral health challenges, combined with acute or chronic medical diagnoses, make them difficult to place in traditional psychiatric or medical settings. Patients on the IMAP unit may present with a wide range of medical concerns, including post-surgical recovery, cardiac abnormalities, sepsis, wound care, or other acute conditions—while also experiencing psychiatric diagnoses such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or severe depression.

The team on 5A delivers respectful, patient-centered care to individuals with complex access and care needs, and works collaboratively with internal medicine, psychiatry, and social work to ensure holistic treatment.
