Wake County Public Health Clinics provide healthcare services for children and adults, ranging from treatment to health education. We are seeking a Clinic Registered Nurse to provide quality nursing services in outpatient clinical settings that support illness prevention and promote optimal physical and social health. This position is primarily based at the Wake County Public Health Center and will support the Refugee Health Clinic as well as other Public Health clinic programs as needed.

Primary Functions As a Refugee Health Clinic Nurse

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments and medical examination visits for refugee patients using standardized screening tools
  • Review medical histories, immunization records, and related documentation to support individualized care planning
  • Determine immunization needs in accordance with state guidelines and administer vaccines
  • Provide patient education regarding vaccine schedules, effectiveness, and preventive health practices
  • Document assessments, immunizations, and clinical services in the electronic medical record in accordance with policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff, including social work, to connect refugee patients with healthcare, social resources, and ongoing primary care services

Other Public Health Clinic Support

  • Provide nursing coverage in other Wake County Public Health clinics as needed
  • Conduct nursing assessments and implement nursing care activities based on client needs
  • Provide patient education related to health conditions, treatment plans, and preventive care
  • Support clinic operations by documenting services, coordinating care, and assisting with patient flow
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and clinic staff to ensure continuity of care across programs

NOTE: This position works in the Health Clinics and Public Health Division and influenza immunization is a condition of initial and continued employment, subject to compliance with federal law. This position actively supports and participates in department emergency preparedness and response activities, which may include temporary changes in responsibilities and working hours.

Required

The Basics (Required Education and Experience)

  • Graduation from an accredited school of Nursing
  • No specific experience required
  • Eligibility for licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse as issued by the North Carolina Board of Nursing
  • Equivalent education and experience are accepted

Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience)

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • 1 year of experience providing nursing care in outpatient clinical or community based health services

How Will We Know You're 'The One'?

  • Ability to conduct client and parent/guardian interviews to obtain medical, developmental, social, and environmental histories, as well as current health concerns, symptoms, and goals.
  • Ability to perform physical assessments within the scope of registered nursing practice and specialty certifications.
  • Ability to review, analyze, and interpret medical records, immunization records, screening tools, and related documentation to develop appropriate plans of care.
  • Ability to perform, teach, and delegate nursing procedures in accordance with North Carolina Board of Nursing guidelines and provider orders.
  • Ability to maintain accurate client records in paper and electronic systems and participate in quality assurance reviews.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, families, colleagues, and community partners through multiple communication platforms, including telehealth and virtual systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, provide nursing expertise, and advocate for services that support individual and population health.
