September is Muscular Dystrophy Awareness Month!

Muscular dystrophy (MD) refers to a group of diseases that cause progressive muscle weakness and loss of muscle mass. Symptoms and severity can vary, with some individuals experiencing signs in childhood and others later in life. While there is currently no cure for MD, increased awareness and understanding can help foster support for those affected.

This month, we stand alongside the individuals, families, caregivers, and communities impacted by muscular dystrophy. Together, we can promote compassion, encouragement, and hope for everyone navigating this journey.

When Care Experience Coordinator Kelsey lost her daughter to Metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD), she made it her mission to share her daughter’s light and educate others about the rare disease.

To honor her memory, Kelsey and her husband Shaun race off-road vehicles to raise awareness for MLD research. The activity is a unique way to bring attention to MLD, and it was also one of their daughter’s favorite things to do with their family.

Recently, Kelsey's Aveanna team in Colorado decked out in their purple racing gear to show their support for her mission! Thank you, Kelsey, for continuing to share Teagan's story and advocate for other families affected by MLD.
