About this role

Position overview

The Clinical Triage Nurse handles all incoming patient calls regarding clinical questions, patient education, prescription refills, and making required post-operative care follow up calls. The Clinical Triage Nurse will have heavy patient interaction via phone. Responsible for facilitating other clinical phone calls for providers including hospital consults.

Handles incoming patient calls regarding clinical questions, prescription refills, and making required post op follow up calls. Accurately and efficiently document the patient questions and concerns in the electronic medical record. Support patients and families as needed.

Calmly handle difficult patients/families and maintain a professional manner. Conduct patient education and training while maintaining current knowledge of pre- and post-operative instructions. Triage patients who need to be seen.

Work-in patients per physician’s preferences and appropriately notify staff of work-in appointments. Ensure medical records are prepared/available for such appointments. Maintain current knowledge of each physician’s standing orders.

Direct hospital consults to the correct physician while taking complete and accurate information to assist the physician. Handle other duties and special projects as assigned.

RN licensure in good standing in the State of Ohio. CPR Certification – after 6 months on the job

Education, Experience & Knowledge Requirements

Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing required

Experience

Minimum 1-year nursing experience (required)

Knowledge & Skills

Previous experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software required. Attention to detail, timeliness and strong organization skills required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills. Basic computer knowledge. Ability to communicate and articulate complex information simply.
