Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric patients in their homes, including medication administration, IV infusions, and wound care.
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, vital signs monitoring, and physical examinations to evaluate health status and update care plans accordingly.
  • Manage advanced medical equipment such as ventilators, feeding tubes, and catheters while ensuring proper maintenance and sterile techniques.
  • Collaborate closely with families to educate caregivers on medication administration, disease management, and emergency procedures.
  • Document all patient interactions accurately using Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or Athenahealth, maintaining strict compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams for discharge planning, case management, and referrals to community resources or specialty services such as hospice or infectious disease care.
  • Respond promptly to urgent situations through triage protocols and provide critical interventions during emergencies or acute episodes.

Experience

  • Proven experience working with children in various healthcare settings such as hospital medicine, ICU, PICU, or neonatal units.
  • Critical care experience including ICU or Level I Trauma Center exposure is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with pediatric-specific procedures like tube feeding, venipuncture (phlebotomy), catheterization, and sterile technique.
  • Knowledge of medical coding systems such as ICD-9/10 and CPT coding for accurate documentation and billing purposes.
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or special needs including Alzheimer's care and memory care is advantageous.
  • Skilled in using EMR/EHR systems like Cerner or eClinicalWorks for efficient patient record management.
  • Strong understanding of pediatric physiology, anatomy knowledge, pain management strategies, and acute care protocols.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with families and caregivers while demonstrating compassion and professionalism in sensitive situations.
