Position Summary

Summary

The Certified Wound, Ostomy & Continence (WOC) Nurse Specialist is a Registered Professional Nurse who, as a result of graduate education, possesses advanced knowledge in acute management and rehabilitation of patients with integumentary, gastro-intestinal and genito-urinary disorders. The WOC Nurse provides and facilitates the optimal management of patients with acute/chronic wounds, ostomies, fistulae, tubes and drains. The WOC Nurse individualizes and coordinates complex treatment modalities/adjuvant therapies and palliative management across care settings through consultation, education, research and collaboration.

As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, the WOC Nurse functions in an autonomous and collaborative framework. The WOC Nurse exemplifies the philosophy and standards of the Patient Care Service Division of the Hospital. The WOC Nurse maintains Wound Ostomy & Continence Board Certification and possesses a Master’s Degree in Nursing.
