Our NICU opened November 1, 2024, under Cleveland Clinic oversight. We are a 14-bed, level III NICU. We admit infants born as young as 22 weeks gestational age up to full term babies who need help transitioning to life outside the womb.

We care for babies who need full-body cooling, respiratory support (CPAP, conventional ventilators, jet ventilator, oscillator), and IV nutrition support as well as attend high-risk deliveries and lead neonatal resuscitations. We have a full staff of neonatologists, neonatal nurse practitioners, and a dedicated respiratory therapy team who are on-site 24/7. Along with our provider team, we have a full team of therapists – physical, occupational, and speech and a dedicated dietician, who are here Monday through Friday. Nurse patient ratios are generally 1:3 (i.e. feeder/growers) or 1:2 (i.e.
CPAP, stable vent, central lines) with the occasional 1:1 for those extremely high acuity babies (i.e. cooling, unstable jet, or oscillator, nitric). As a Nurse Manager, you will manage the delivery of care within the Neonatal ICU (NICU) at Akron General Medical Center. In this role, you will manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nurse care while offering clinical supervision, maintaining quality outcomes, and supervising all aspects of personnel management and development.

A caregiver in this position works days from 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Availability to come in and meet with night shift caregivers is required. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Manage the practice of professional nursing and delivery of nursing care on an assigned unit.
Establish clinical direction of nursing care, provide clinical supervision and maintain quality outcomes and patient care standards. Identify and resolve issues affecting the delivery of patient care. Develop quality initiatives and implement policies and procedures to ensure efficient and effective delivery of health services.
Supervise caregivers and promote development. Maintain adherence to JCAHO and other regulatory standards. Coordinate unit operations with other units/departments.
Develop and monitor budgets, approve purchases and establish/revise inventory quotes. Analyze personnel structure and determine staffing needs. Evaluate performance, conduct selection and termination processes, and develop strategic plans.
Participate in clinical nursing research and support foundation research activities. Direct unit participation in evaluation of new products. Approve purchases and establish or revise inventory quotes.
Assist in the development and monitoring of budget. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN) – if in neonatal care services, perinatal care services, Level 3 Obstetric Service area, or Level 4 Obstetric Service area. High degree of clinical expertise in the specialty area.
Demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling, problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution, and group process skills.
