About this role
The School Nurse promotes and maintains the health and well-being of students and staff by providing basic healthcare services, managing health records, responding to medical emergencies, and supporting a safe school environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide first aid and basic medical care to students and staff as needed. Assess student health concerns and determine appropriate care or referrals. Administer medications according to physician orders and school policies.
Maintain student health records as per ISBE requirements. Monitor and manage student health conditions, including allergies, asthma, diabetes, and other chronic illnesses. Communicate with parents/guardians regarding student health concerns, illnesses, injuries, and medication needs.

Respond to medical emergencies and coordinate emergency care when necessary. Ensure compliance with state and local health regulations and school policies. Conduct health screenings as required (e.g., vision, hearing, immunization compliance).
Educate students and staff on health, wellness, hygiene, and disease prevention. Collaborate with administrators, teachers, parents, and healthcare providers to support student health needs. Maintain inventory and supplies.
Ability to respond quickly to medical emergencies.
Qualifications
Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Illinois. CPR and First Aid certification. Previous pediatric, school nursing, or community health experience preferred. Knowledge of student health regulations, medication administration, and emergency procedures. Strong communication, organizational, and recordkeeping skills.
