Getting around+Getting around Stuart and reaching Martin County medical facilities relies almost exclusively on personal vehicles. Daily travel centers on US Highway 1, which serves as the primary commercial and north-south transit spine, as well as the Roosevelt Bridge spanning the St. Lucie River. While overall congestion is far lighter than in larger South Florida metropolitan areas to the south, rush-hour slowdowns and bridge crossings can add time during peak shift changes and peak winter tourist months.

Living in Stuart
Known as the Sailfish Capital of the World, Stuart offers relocating nurses an appealing blend of Old Florida coastal charm and a relaxed, community-focused pace along the Treasure Coast. Situated along the St. Lucie River and Indian River Lagoon in Martin County, the city sidesteps the relentless density, highway gridlock, and urban sprawl of South Florida while maintaining excellent access to Atlantic beaches like Bathtub Reef and Stuart Beach. Off-shift hours are easily spent walking the scenic Stuart Riverwalk, catching a performance at the historic Lyric Theatre, or dining along the water at local staples like TideHouse and Conchy Joe's. Residential choices range from townhomes in River Marina and golf-course living in The Florida Club to family-centric neighborhoods in nearby Palm City. Tradeoffs include a quiet nightlife scene that skews early, summer heat and humidity, and seasonal congestion along US Highway 1 during peak winter months. For nurses seeking outdoor water recreation, low crime, and a calm home base between shifts, Stuart presents an exceptionally restorative coastal setting.
