American Traveler is hiring a Psychiatric RN for a 13-week acute inpatient assignment requiring 2+ years of acute/inpatient psych experience and a ND or compact RN license.
Details
Acute care Psychiatric Unit located on the locked 4th floor, the only child/adolescent inpatient unit in the region
25 licensed beds, currently utilizing 3 Adult beds and 6 Adolescent beds
Nurse-to-patient ratios of 3:1 for Adults (up to 7 patients) and 6:1 for Adolescents
Treats adolescents and adults with depression, anxiety, substance abuse, psychosis, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other behavioral or personality disorders
Travelers may work with both adolescent and adult populations, separated by a locked door
Uses EPIC EMR
12-hour shifts including 7a-7p, 7p-7a, 7a-3p, 3p-11p, and 11p-7a via self-scheduling
Every other weekend and every other holiday required
Floating required throughout the hospital as helping hands or for 1:1 patient observation
No call or standby requirements
Mental health techs, occupational therapy, and social work support available on the unit
Respiratory therapy available in-house for CPAP, BiPAP, and oxygen support
Mechanical restraints used rarely, along with seclusion when necessary
Requirements
Active ND state or compact RN license required
Minimum 2 years of acute/inpatient or state hospital experience required
Strong de-escalation and communication skills required
Adolescent psychiatric experience preferred
IV experience not required though a plus
Copy of driver's license required for consideration

Nurses are expected to be actively involved in patient care, including 15-minute rounds, rather than remaining at the nurses' station
Charge nurse or house supervisor coverage is not always guaranteed on every shift; travelers are not typically expected to fill this role
Unit-specific orientation consists of two 12-hour shifts
Dress code allows any scrub color except maroon; business casual also accepted
Patience and a calm demeanor are attributes that contribute to success on this unit
Candidates must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
Candidates may not have been employed full time, part time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility, including CHI or Dignity, within the past year
Up to 7 days of requested time off allowed per 13-week contract; no additional RTO approved after submission
