Responsibilities

Coordinate the health services and needs of students. Provide health education programs in the schools, maintain accurate health records and carry out the health activities as assigned by the Supervisor of Health Services and the building administrator.

Specific responsibilities in this position

  • Provide basic medical care and first aid to students, staff and visitors in accordance with School City of Hammond procedures, guidelines and policies.
  • Maintain accurate and updated health records
  • Inform staff of medical conditions of students as needed
  • Perform necessary and state mandated health screenings
  • Assist parents and students with mandated health information
  • Assist the school administrator with identifying hazardous, unsafe or unhealthy conditions on schoolproperty
  • Develop and participate in Wellness Programs
  • Participate in building and Health Services staff meetings
  • Participate in case conferences and write health care plans for students with medical needs
  • Implement policies on exclusions and readmission of students with contagious or infectious diseases
  • Apprise the school administrator of accidents, injuries or medical problems as needed
  • Complete On the Job Injury, accident and incident reports as soon as possible
  • Other duties as directed by the principal or the Supervisor of Health Services

Specific skills and knowledge for this position

  • Basic knowledge Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.
  • Must have good communication, computer, and interpersonal skills

Qualifications and education

Requirements

  • Current Indiana License as a Registered Nurse
  • Current CPR card
  • 3 years experience as a Registered Nurse desirable
  • Bilingual a plus
