Ambulatory Care Registered Nurse- Surgery

Catalog the entire process from an academic standpoint. Works cooperatively within own department and with other services to create a system of quality health care delivery. Demonstrates positive and effective working relationships with all health care team members.

Essential Functions

Completes patient assessments and triages, records patient histories, symptoms, and observations. Establishes and implements nursing care plans for each patient through assessment, development, and evaluation of the nursing process. Administers injections, provides wound care, and performs catheterizations and point of care testing as needed.

Administers medications and intravenous solutions safely and correctly. Manages, monitors, and adjusts doses based on protocols and physician instructions. Works with patients and families to explain post-treatment care needs and provide follow-up through teaching and referral to external resources.

Identifies patient care issues, assists in data gathering, proposes solutions, and participates in the evaluation of quality assurance issues. Serves as a resource to Medical Assistants by proving guidance, education, and mentorship. Delegates appropriately to ensure optimal patient care.

When necessary, assists with the flow of patient care and performs duties of Medical Assistant. Provides ongoing assurance of functional emergency equipment and adequate emergency drug supplies. Responds to emergency situations effectively throughout the practice.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's Degree, Associate's Degree, or diploma in Nursing from an accredited institution Current Maryland licensure or eligibility to obtain Maryland licensure Excellent customer service and communication skills Two to three years clinical experience preferred CPR certification is required

The referenced base salary range represents the low and high end of University of Maryland’s Faculty Physician’s Inc. salary range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of control, education/training and other qualifications.
