Neighborhoods+Barboursville is a village of about 4,456 (2020 Census), so people sort by street character more than named districts: historic, walkable older homes around the village center; park-side streets next to 750-acre Barboursville Park; and mid-century plus newer traditional houses spreading toward the Huntington Mall corridors and I-64. Families often treat park proximity and Cabell County zoning—Village of Barboursville Elementary, Davis Creek Elementary, and Barboursville Middle, which can shift by street—as the real neighborhood filter. Mall-adjacent and interstate-adjacent areas shorten errands; village streets trade that for older housing and a strollable core.

Getting around+I-64 and U.S. 60 are the daily spines into Huntington and Marshall University; one resident put downtown Huntington at about five minutes and the mall in the opposite direction. Ongoing I-64 work near the Merritt’s Creek and Huntington Mall interchanges can stretch those times, and Barboursville Park game-day weekends add another wrinkle, so drive your actual shift hour before signing. Sources mention local buses, ride-sharing, and cars but do not name hospital campuses, garage parking, or a night-shift transit line—plan on driving.

Outdoors+Barboursville Park (750 acres) is the year-round hub: Lake William for fishing, playgrounds, youth sports, trails, tennis, disc golf, baseball, soccer, picnic shelters, and a horse arena. Beech Fork State Park, about 3,144 acres in the nearby hills, adds lake recreation and a fuller state-park outing. The Ohio River is close for fishing and boating, Hatfield-McCoy Trails are a short drive for off-road riding, and local gardens are a favorite photo stop.

Barboursville is Huntington’s small, park-centered village: about 4,500 people, a historic core, and a 750-acre Barboursville Park with Lake William that functions as the region’s playground and youth-sports campus. I-64 and U.S. 60 put downtown Huntington and Marshall University minutes away, with Huntington Mall on the other side of town for errands. Housing is the practical win—typical values near $202,000 and median sales around $230,000—split between older village streets and newer mall-corridor subdivisions. Cabell County schools (confirm Village of Barboursville or Davis Creek elementary and Barboursville Middle by address) and a reputation for quiet, low crime are why families stay. The honest tradeoffs are a thin young-adult scene, crowded elementary classrooms, some rough roads, I-64 work at Merritt’s Creek and the mall interchanges, and a neighborly culture that can leave outsiders on the porch. Drive your hospital shift before you buy; a car is non-negotiable.
