About this role
*Job Summary*
We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused *Pre-Operative Registered Nurse (RN)* to join our growing ambulatory surgical center. As a *newly established 3-operating room facility specializing in orthopedic and pain procedures*, this is a great opportunity to be part of building a high-quality surgical program from the ground up.
The Pre-Op RN is responsible for preparing patients for surgery by completing assessments, verifying documentation, initiating care plans, and ensuring patients are safe and ready for their procedure. This role also includes conducting *preoperative phone call screenings* to ensure patients are appropriately prepared prior to arrival.
We are currently hiring *per diem and part-time staff* to support our flexible surgical schedule. Candidates must be *flexible and willing to train in other perioperative areas*, including PACU and/or the Operating Room, as needed.

*Schedule*
- *Days:* Sunday – Friday
- *Hours:* 7:00 AM – End of cases (varies based on daily schedule)
*Key Responsibilities*
- Perform comprehensive preoperative patient assessments, including medical history, medication review, allergies, and baseline vital signs
- Conduct *preoperative phone call screenings* to:
- Review medical history and medications
- Reinforce NPO instructions
- Confirm arrival time and expectations
- Identify potential concerns prior to surgery day
- Verify completion and accuracy of required documentation:
- History & Physical (H&P)
- Surgical and anesthesia consents
- Site marking verification
- Ensure patients meet preoperative requirements and are appropriately prepared for surgery
- Initiate IV access and administer preoperative medications as ordered
- Collaborate with anesthesia providers and surgeons to address any preoperative concerns
- Educate patients and families on the surgical process, expectations, and post-operative care
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the SIS EMR system
- Ensure compliance with infection control, patient safety, and regulatory standards
- Support efficient patient flow and communication across departments
- *Cross-train and assist in PACU and/or Operating Room roles as needed*
*Qualifications & Experience*
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of New Jersey
- BLS required; ACLS preferred
- Previous experience in *Pre-Op, PACU, OR, or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC)* preferred
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Experience with IV insertion and medication administration
- Familiarity with SIS EMR systems
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to multiple roles
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
*Preferred Experience*
- Orthopedic and/or pain management procedures
- Preoperative patient education and discharge planning
- Experience performing preoperative phone screenings
- Flexibility across perioperative roles (Pre-Op/PACU/OR)
