Key Position Details
Important Dates
New grad RNs are encouraged to apply prior to graduation, but can do so after graduation as well (May grads can apply as soon as January, December grads as soon as August). We hire and start new graduates year-round depending on available positions.
Application
Requirements
We define a new graduate as a registered nurse with less than 1 year of RN work experience. Please include a current, detailed copy of your resume. You will indicate your preferences for location and department on the application. By applying, you will be considered for all RN positions within the Allina system that hire new grads.
Work
Schedule
Various shifts and FTEs may be available. You would interview and be considered for all work schedule availabilities. Straight night shifts or a day/night rotation are often available for new grads. Straight evening or day/evening positions may be possible depending on openings. Shifts may be 8 or 12 hours. Weekends may be every other or every third. FTEs for new graduates are often 0.75-0.9 (60-72 hours per two-week pay period). The work schedule details are determined during the job offer and are dependent on what positions are available at that time.
Pay
Pay for RNs in the hospital follows the union step scale which factors in degree and length of service. The current base rate at our metro hospitals for a bachelor's prepared new grad nurse is $46.20/hour. Specifics around pay including shift, weekend, and/or float differentials would be discussed at the time of the job offer.
Unit Availabilities
There may be availabilities in Home Care or a wide variety of inpatient units within the 12 hospital campuses of the Allina Health system that hire new grad RNs, such as: Cardiac Telemetry Float Pool Inpatient Physical Rehabilitation Medical Surgical Neurology Oncology Orthopedics Progressive Care Short Stay Observation Spine Our Inpatient Mental Health and Emergency Departments will occasionally hire new grads with experience in those respective areas depending on position availability. The OB, ICU, clinics, urgent care, surgical services and hospice settings within Allina rarely hire new graduate nurses. Our hospitals primarily serve the adult patient populations so we do not have Neonatal, Pediatrics or Special Care Nursery units within the Allina hospital system.
