Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Nursing Services/Assistant Director of Nursing Services, the RN Supervisor is responsible for the comprehensive nursing care of residents in the facility, and for the supervision and education of nursing personnel who provide care to the residents.

Qualifications

*Required:* Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of California. Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Strong administrative and organization skills. Ability to assess and implement interventions for resident care based on standards of nursing care. Demonstrates supervisory management, leadership skills, and employee relations. Familiarity with computers required, experience with electronic patient charting preferred.

*Desired:* Two years of nursing experience. Supervisory experience which includes charge nurse background; and experience in long-term care and direct care of the aged or chronically ill.

Any and all job-related duties and responsibilities as directed by management including:

Coordinates resident care management on assigned duty.

Accountable for the management, clinical care of residents including but not limited to:

  • Ensuring the provision of quality nursing care in accordance with federal, state, and company requirements based on the acuity of residents.
  • Make daily rounds to see all residents, ascertain condition and comfort.
  • Following safety policies in performing nursing care.
  • Performing resident assessments as condition warrants. Developing, implementing, and evaluating plans of care to include, but not limited to recognition of spiritual and emotional, psychosocial, and functional factors.
  • Implementing restorative nursing care in the area of self-care deficits relating to activities of daily living.
  • Encouraging and assisting residents in self-care and group activities.
  • Initiating plans of care to promote desired residents outcomes.
  • Monitoring nursing personnel compliance with nursing policies and procedures.
  • Initiating procedures to protect the resident from injury and infection.
  • Safeguarding privacy and property of residents.
  • Coordinating the admission of new resident(s).
  • Assessing and evaluating the resident change of condition and instituting appropriate interventions.
  • Assisting with resident diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, and treatments.
  • Implementing nursing interventions as indicated by the Resident’s plan of care or as ordered by the physician.
  • Monitoring nursing personnel for competency in clinical skills.
  • Initiating emergency measures according to facility’s policy and within standards of nursing practice.
  • Communicating with the physician as indicated by resident needs or status and assuring follow through.

Assists Assistant Director of Nursing Services or Director of Nursing Services in developing, maintaining, and evaluating Nursing Service objectives including but not limited to:

  • Supporting the overall goals of the company and the facility.
  • Maintaining acceptable standards of nursing practice.
  • Ensuring the exchange of essential information necessary for the provision of quality resident care.
  • Maintaining all documentation as required by federal and state regulation, and company policy.
  • Monitoring inventory of supplies, equipment and/or medications to meet resident needs.
  • Assisting in the evaluation and development of nursing procedures.
  • Making recommendations for more effective use of labor hours.
  • Assisting in orienting and educating nursing personnel.
  • Attending required in-services and facility/departmental meetings.
  • Other responsibilities as delegated by supervisor.

Responsible for the supervision of nursing personnel performance during but not limited to:

  • Assisting staff to meet resident care needs.
  • Review daily reports and resident assignments with charge Nurses on their assigned stations.
  • Ensuring that assignments are based on the qualification of each staff member.
  • Ensuring that assignments are based on the size and physical layout of the facility.
  • Ensuring that assignments are based on resident acuity.
  • Ensuring that assignments are made taking into consideration the spiritual emotional, functional factors of residents.
  • Providing job-related assistance to staff whenever necessary.
  • Noting and executing physician orders.
  • Promoting staff performance through education, praising, and recognizing effective performance.
  • Providing disciplinary counseling (verbal and written) to nursing personnel, as appropriate.
