Perioperative Registered Nurses/Circulators are clinically competent, registered, professional nurses who have demonstrated expertise in the perioperative field. They effectively deliver perioperative care to the surgical patient through the nursing process of assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.

Responsibilities

Adherence to hospital/department policy

Maintains good attendance record.

Arrives to work punctually

Follows dress code

Observes confidentiality

Adheres to safety policies

Participates in continuing education

Follows department of nursing and hospital policy and procedures

Complies with surgery department policy and procedures

Complies with call and staffing assignments

Patient Care

Uses the nursing process to plan and provide comprehensive safe patient care

Assesses the patient

Plans patient care

Documents patient care.

Collaborates with other members of the health care team in planning care

Educates and Instructs patient and family

Conscientiously and continuously applies nursing principles in patient care

Participates in performance improvement activities.

Clinical Duties

Administers medications, blood and blood products according to policy and procedure in collaboration with anesthesia

Administers treatments, ensuring proper positioning, prepping, and safety of patient before, during, and after procedure.

Ensures sterile technique is mantained at all times, communicating with team and surgeons for patient safety.

Performs patient care, scrub or circulating duties as assigned. Adhering to ARON standards and recommendations.

Education

Graduate of an accredited program of professional nursing

Licensure/

Certification

Must possess a current license as a registered nurse in the state of Alabama

Must have current BCLS certification

Recommended ACLS and PALS certification
