Clinical Director / Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) – Hospice

Key Responsibilities

• Provide overall leadership and oversight of hospice clinical services.

• Coordinate and oversee direct and indirect patient care services provided by clinical personnel.

• Supervise and support clinical staff and provide guidance regarding patient care, documentation, clinical practices, and hospice standards.

• Assist clinical personnel with assessment, care planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient and family/caregiver needs.

• Ensure appropriate coordination of care among members of the hospice interdisciplinary team.

• Monitor clinical documentation and ensure patient records are complete, accurate, timely, and compliant with applicable requirements.

• Ensure clinical records are maintained in accordance with federal, state, Medicare, accreditation, and organizational requirements.

• Participate in clinical chart review, quality assurance, performance improvement, and other compliance activities.

• Monitor patient census, staffing needs, workload, and other operational indicators affecting clinical services.

• Participate in hiring, orientation, supervision, education, evaluation, and ongoing development of clinical personnel.

• Conduct or oversee competency and performance evaluations of clinical staff.

• Develop and coordinate orientation, in-service education, and continuing education programs for clinical personnel.

• Promote safe, appropriate, and high-quality delivery of hospice services.

• Participate in the development and implementation of clinical policies, procedures, goals, and performance improvement initiatives.

• Maintain awareness of changes in hospice regulations, nursing practice, Medicare requirements, and accreditation standards.

• Ensure appropriate clinical staffing and availability during agency operating hours.

• Collaborate with the Administrator regarding clinical operations, staffing, organizational planning, and resource needs.

• Assist in maintaining appropriate patient care supplies and clinical equipment.

• Support hospice referral and community relationship activities as appropriate.

• Serve as acting Administrator when designated and as permitted by applicable regulatory requirements.

• Perform other clinical leadership responsibilities as assigned by the Administrator.

Required Qualifications

• Current, active Nevada Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing.

• Demonstrated experience supervising and directing clinical and/or professional healthcare personnel.

• Strong knowledge of nursing practice, clinical documentation, patient care coordination, and healthcare regulatory requirements.

• Excellent leadership, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively with physicians, interdisciplinary team members, patients, families, caregivers, facilities, and community partners.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Valid driver's license, reliable transportation, and automobile insurance meeting applicable state and organizational requirements.

Experience Requirement

Candidates should meet the applicable experience requirements for the position, including:

• Three (3) years of management experience within the last five (5) years in hospice or a related healthcare organization, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or administrative capacity ;

OR

• Four (4) years of RN experience within the last five (5) years in hospice, home health, primary care, or another qualifying healthcare facility, with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or administrative capacity .

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related qualifying nursing education as required for the position.

• Advanced education and/or hospice leadership experience is preferred.

Preferred Experience

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in

• Hospice clinical management

• Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) or Director of Nursing responsibilities

• Medicare hospice Conditions of Participation

• ACHC accreditation standards

• Hospice interdisciplinary group/team coordination

• Clinical documentation and chart review

• Quality Assurance / Performance Improvement (QAPI)

• Hospice survey preparation and regulatory compliance

• Staff education, competency assessment, and clinical supervision
