RN Med Surg (Medical Surgical)

Duties

• Provide comprehensive nursing assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and patient history documentation using electronic health record (EHR) systems.

• Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions and injection administration, following aseptic techniques and safety protocols.

• Monitor patient responses to treatments, manage acute pain, and implement appropriate interventions to ensure comfort and safety.

• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in settings such as hospital medicine, ICU, emergency room, telemetry units, and long-term care facilities to coordinate seamless patient care.

• Conduct diagnostic evaluations, including laboratory testing and specimen collection/processing, ensuring proper documentation in medical records.

• Educate patients and families on health management strategies, discharge planning, and post-acute care needs while adhering to HIPAA regulations.

• Maintain proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner for accurate medical documentation and record keeping.

• Ensure infection control practices are strictly followed to prevent hospital-acquired infections across all patient care activities.

Requirements

• Valid RN license with current state licensure; prior experience in medical-surgical nursing is essential.

• Demonstrated proficiency with EMR/EHR systems including Epic or Cerner platforms.

• Experience working in diverse clinical environments such as ICU, telemetry units, emergency medicine, or hospital medicine is highly desirable.

• Knowledge of critical care procedures including airway management, ventilator support, and trauma medicine; Level I or Level II trauma center experience is a plus.

• Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy knowledge, ICD-10 coding standards, and laboratory procedures.

• Ability to perform complex patient assessments and respond effectively to acute emergencies or critical situations.

• Excellent communication skills with the capacity to educate patients about their care plans effectively.

• Experience working with individuals with disabilities or developmental disabilities is advantageous.

• Additional certifications such as Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), neonatal resuscitation procedures or specialized training in hospice & palliative medicine are preferred but not mandatory.
