Vanguard Landing is seeking a compassionate and highly organized Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Registered Nurse (RN) to serve as our Medical Services Manager, overseeing medication systems, healthcare coordination, staff training, and clinical compliance for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

*Staff Education & Clinical Support*

  • Coordinating with outside medication training company, assist with ongoing education and coaching to DSPs regarding:
  • Medication administration
  • Infection prevention
  • Seizure response
  • G-tube procedures
  • Emergency response
  • Resident health changes
  • Universal precautions
  • Observe and evaluate medication passes. Service Director will assist with this.
  • Assist with competency evaluations.
  • Support orientation of new employees.
  • Promote safe medication practices throughout the organization.

*General*

  • Communicate directly with all of the healthcare providers (including VGL’s Medical Director) who are working with VGL’s residents and day participants;
  • Monitor the maintenance, repair, calibration, etc. of all durable medical equipment and tools utilized in services and supports programming;
  • Monitor inventory of all VGL medically related supplies and order replacements as necessary;
  • Obtain all necessary medical services contract bids for approval by the ED, OD, and SD;
  • Assist with physical mobility, personal care needs, hygiene, and feeding of residents and day participants when schedules permit;
  • Assist the ED, OD, and SD to schedule and monitor each resident to ensure that the residents health related & physical activities are performed as meticulously as possible (without infringing upon their privacy and/or compromising their dignity) while ensuring their safety, health, and well-being;
  • Attend management team staff meetings weekly (when requested by 1 or more Directors); environment while adhering to OSHA and the Infection Control policies;
  • Be able to perceive the nature of sounds by ear, express or exchange ideas by the manner of the spoken word, perceive characteristics through the eyes, extend arms in any direction, work the fingers (seize, hold, grasp, turn, etc.);
  • Coordinate and attend in-services pertaining to topics required to perform job-related functions;
  • Practice safe use of potentially dangerous supplies and/or chemicals (e.g., adhesive removers, all-purpose cleaners, laundry detergent, deodorizers, air fresheners, disinfectants, dust spray, furniture polish, glass cleaning chemicals, laundry soap, dishwashing soap, metal polishers, restroom cleaning chemicals, and other cleaning agents and combustibles);
  • Practice safe use and storage of potentially dangerous utensils, tools, and equipment associated with residential services;
  • Maintain and protect VGL keys required to perform job related tasks;
  • Recognize, take action, and file incident reports regarding unsafe acts or situations involving residents and day participants,employees, contractors, students, volunteers, and visitors;
  • Identify a crisis situation and act quickly to resolve it in an acceptable manner;
  • Notify ED and/or OD of inventory/supply shortages and assist in drafting the appropriate purchase requisitions;

  • Minimum of a current Virginia Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program
  • 2 years experience overseeing all of the required medical components for a group
  • Criminal Records clearance;
  • Central Registry Background Investigation clearance;
  • Documented Tuberculosis screening clearance;
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Computer proficiency.

*Preferred:*

  • Experience supporting adults with intellectual or developmental disabilities.
  • Experience in supported living, assisted living, group homes, supervised living, or long-term care.
  • Experience with seizure disorders, G-tube management
  • Experience with behavioral supports.
  • Experience with electronic medication administration records (eMAR).
  • Supervisory or training experience.
  • Graduate of an accredited practical nursing program.
  • 2 years experience overseeing all of the required medical components for a group

Pay: $60,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
