We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Travel Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse to provide comprehensive postoperative care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in critical care nursing, with experience working in diverse clinical settings such as hospital medicine, emergency medicine, or trauma centers. - Monitor and assess patients' vital signs, neurological status, and overall condition during the immediate postoperative period.
- Administer medications, including pain management and sedation, following established protocols and physician orders.
- Utilize aseptic techniques for wound care, IV insertions, and catheter management to prevent infection.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans for post-anesthesia recovery.
- Provide education and emotional support to patients and their families regarding recovery processes and discharge instructions.
- Document all patient interactions accurately within electronic health record (EHR) systems such as Epic or Cerner, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Respond promptly to emergent situations using critical care response procedures, including airway management and ventilator support when necessary.
- Assist with diagnostic evaluations like laboratory specimen collection or imaging procedures such as CT scans or sonography as needed.
- Ensure infection control standards are maintained throughout all patient care activities, adhering to NCQA standards.
- Support discharge planning by coordinating follow-up care, medication reconciliation, and patient education on post-operative instructions.
Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license with current state licensure required.
- Proven critical care experience in settings such as ICU, trauma centers (Level I or II), or emergency departments preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or eClinicalWorks for documentation purposes.
- Strong knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to perioperative care.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with developmental disabilities, or those requiring hospice & palliative medicine services.
- Proficiency in advanced nursing skills such as IV infusion, suturing, tube feeding management, and airway management techniques.
- Ability to perform comprehensive patient assessments and respond effectively to acute pain or emergent situations.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient care delivery in high-pressure environments.
