Qualifications

- Valid Illinois state license to practice as a registered nurse
- Two years experience in nursing, preferably in a school district
- Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation program completion
- Proficiency in gastrostomy tube access and infusion preferred
- Proficiency in the care of children with diabetes preferred

Responsibilities
*
- Provides direct professional nursing services, first aid, illness, and emergency care to students and staff in response to the nursing assessment and in accordance with professional standards, school policy and procedures, and state and local mandates
- Participates in maintaining accurate medical records to assure compliance with state mandates including immunizations, physical examinations, and medical conditions, and the related archival responsibilities
- Administers medication with appropriate documentation in accordance with school board policy
- Performs or assists with mandated procedures for vision and hearing
(requires state credentials as a screener)
- Maintains communication with the certified school nurse, teachers, other school personnel, and parents/guardians to enhance cooperative action which will enhance the health and safety needs of students.
Completes accident/injury reports for students/staff for incidents occurring on school property during school/work hours
- Compiles data for statistical purposes
- Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect as mandated reporter
- Maintains confidentiality regarding all school and health-related issues
- Maintains a daily log of student visits to the health office
- Maintains the daily environment of the health office facility and supplies
- Assists the building secretary in general clerical duties as time permits
- Performs all other tasks as requested by the district-wide certified school nurse and/or administrator
- Provides direct nursing services at other schools in the district as needed
- Attends nursing staff development and/or training as scheduled
- Administers nutrition and medications via gastrostomy tube as directed by student medical orders.
- Proficiency or willingness to become proficient at gastrostomy tube care, maintenance and assessment of site, infusion of nutrition and medications and troubleshooting.
- Performs diabetic care as directed per student medical orders
