We are seeking a part-time Nurse to join our Wellness Team, working up to 24 hours/week.

Summary

Works with a small, flexible team of health care professionals and Sister volunteers to provide assessment and management of health-related needs for the Grand Rapids Dominican Sisters. Functions in an unlicensed, independent with services setting. Provides holistic, compassionate care, encompassing skills and approaches you would use for a family member.

Responsibilities

  • Care management.
  • Performs assessment of acute and chronic problems.
  • Advocates and provides guidance for Sisters in navigating the health care system.
  • Provides medication guidance and management.
  • Provides direct and preventive care: Examples: wound care, first aid, ear cleaning, and foot and nail care.
  • Provides emergency assessment. Examples falls, urgent care needs.
  • Assigns appropriate nurse aide duties.
  • Functions as office nurse for Marywood on campus primary care provider.
  • Documents using electronic charting and updating medical records.
  • Manages Wellness Center office visits and visits to Sisters in their living space.
  • Communicates and coordinates with physician offices, pharmacies, and other health care providers.
  • Works closely with Finance office on insurance issues including exclusions from plan formularies for certain medications.
  • Communicates with other care providers on campus and coordinates smooth transitions between independent living and assisted care at Aquinata.
  • Manages medication deliveries, on site lab draws, supply ordering, doctor day schedules, activities, and follow up.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • RN with current license to practice nursing in Michigan.
  • Prefer a bachelor’s degree in nursing, healthcare, or related field with minimum of 1 year of experience caring for the elderly.
  • Position requires some physical exertion as well as sedentary periods.
  • Must be able to assist in lifting moderately heavy items up to 75 lbs. using proper body mechanics.
  • Good relationship building and team member skills.
  • Able to work under stress.
  • Must be able to react to emergency pages/notifications from Sisters.
  • Manages recurring assignments independently.
  • Able to manage problems and changes in Sisters’ needs.
  • Uses judgment in interpreting and adapting guidelines .
  • Must be able to understand and be understood by others including staff, Sisters, physicians, and guests.
  • Must be able to read and document in patient charts.
