Job Description The Women’s Health Service Line at UCSF Medical Center is, engaged in clinical, research, and training activities at the Parnassus, Mt. Zion, Mission Bay, as well as satellite locations throughout the Bay Area, with an annual operating budget of $175 million. The mission of the UCSF Department of OBGYN & Reproductive Sciences is to improve the lives and health of all women through excellence, innovation and leadership in Patient Care, Scientific Discovery, Education, Advocacy. “Leading the way in women’s health.” The Mission Bay Birth Center includes 9 LDRP rooms, 24 Post Partum rooms, 12 Antepartum rooms and 9 triage bays. This position reports directly to the Unit Director of the Birth Center, under Women’s Health and Adult Services. Job Summary Provides lactation assistance to women and infants within the Benioff Children’s Hospital, including but not limited to the Birth Center, who are attempting to establish or maintain breast feeding practices. Works to develop, implement and evaluate education around breast feeding for patients, families, and staff. Utilizes the nursing process for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation to provide safe, therapeutic care. Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary and nursing teams; carries out established nursing procedures and performs related duties as required; performs nursing care for patients with more complex needs with assistance and supervision. Assists with the management of patient care administered by other members of the nursing team. Qualifications Required Qualifications This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. Minimum two (2) years of recent clinical RN experience in an inpatient setting caring for the mother/baby couplet. International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) certification and has practiced for a minimum of one year as a lactation consultant. Preferred Qualifications BSN Experience working in a Baby Friendly USA hospital Required Licenses / Certifications Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of California. International Board of Lactation Consultants (IBCLC) certification Current BLS certification Current NRP certification
