About this role

The Early Childhood Nurse will serve as the nurse for Head Start. Early Head Start and Child Care locations for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years old. The Nurse is responsible for implementing health and safety practices that adhere to the National Head Start Performance Standards. Monitor each child's health by performing periodic health checks, observations and screenings including vision, hearing, height, weight, blood pressure, POC lead, hemoglobin. The Early Childhood Nurse will coordinate and oversee all health components of the programs in accordance with federal and state regulations.

Conducting review of physical exam forms

Review child physicals upon enrollment and on a regular basis thereafter to ensure physical updates. Ensure all physicals have been completed within the last year. Ensure the child is up to date with vaccinations. Review of any medications that are related to allergies or specific medical care, including asthma action plans and medication administration plans. When necessary provide assistance to families and staff regarding healthcare management concerns.

Acts as a resource person on health issues. Advanced skills in interpersonal communication and health counseling.

Hours & schedule

10-15 hours/month visiting Head Start and Early Head Start programs located in Hill County

Nurse develops their own monthly schedule. Hours must be conducted between 9am-3pm on weekdays and must be on-site.

Qualifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN)
  • BLS, current
  • Experience with community programs, child nutrition or Head Start/Child Care
  • Proficient in use of Google platform (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, Google Sheets)
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written skills
  • Experience with child care center software preferred, but not required (ChildPlus, Procare)
