Director of Nursing

• Promote the mission, vision, and values of Foothills Surgery Center.

• Direct and oversee all nursing services within the center.

• Ensure adequate numbers of qualified nursing personnel are available to meet patient care needs.

• Develop, implement, and maintain nursing policies, procedures, and standards of practice.

• Provide clinical leadership and oversight for pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-anesthesia care services.

• Ensure nursing practice complies with applicable federal, state, and professional standards.

• Schedules staff meetings on a regular basis:

• Schedules and posts notice of date and time

• Prepares agenda, obtains input from staff members

• Composes written summary of meeting discussion and communicates to providers and staff

Patient Care and Clinical Oversight

• Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care.

• Monitor patient care outcomes and initiate corrective actions when warranted.

• Oversee patient assessment, care planning, discharge, and transfer processes.

• Ensure patient education and discharge instructions are appropriately provided and documented.

• Coordinate emergency response and patient safety activities.

Regulatory Compliance and Survey Readiness

• Maintain ongoing compliance with CMS Ambulatory Surgical Center Conditions for Coverage.

• Ensure compliance with all CDPHE licensing and operational requirements.

• Serve as the center’s lead for regulatory preparedness and accreditation readiness.

• Coordinate preparation for CMS, CDPHE, Joint Commission, and other regulatory surveys.

• Conduct ongoing mock surveys, tracer activities, and compliance audits.

• Develop, implement, and monitor corrective action plans resulting from survey findings, audits, or identified compliance concerns.

• Monitor regulatory changes and incorporate new requirements into organizational policies and practices.

Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI)

The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight of the center’s Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Program.

Responsibilities include

• Collect, analyze, trend, and report quality and patient safety data.

• Monitor clinical outcomes, infections, complications, transfers, medication events, patient grievances, and patient satisfaction trends.

• Lead performance improvement initiatives and ensure completion of action plans.

• Present quality and performance reports to the Administrator, Medical Staff, Quality Committee, and Governing Board.

• Ensure quality activities support organizational goals and regulatory requirements.

Infection Prevention and Control

The Director of Nursing is responsible for oversight of the Infection Prevention Program and may act as or supervise the designated Infection Preventionist.

Responsibilities include

• Provide strategic oversight of the Infection Prevention and Control Program.

• Ensure implementation of evidence-based infection prevention practices.

• Oversee surveillance, reporting, and analysis of healthcare-associated infection data.

• Ensure compliance with sterilization, high-level disinfection, environmental cleaning, and infection control standards.

• Review infection prevention audits and implement corrective actions as necessary.

• Ensure staff education and competency validation related to infection prevention practices.

• Report infection prevention activities and outcomes to leadership and the Governing Board.

Staff Development and Competency

• Recruit, hire, orient, and retain qualified nursing personnel.

• Conduct performance evaluations and ongoing coaching.

• Ensure annual competency validation for all clinical personnel.

• Ensure completion of mandatory education and regulatory training requirements.

• Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, and continuous professional development.

Medical Staff Collaboration

• Collaborate with physicians, anesthesia providers, and other clinical leaders to support quality patient care.

• Participate in credentialing, privileging, and peer review activities as assigned.

• Support compliance with medical staff bylaws and clinical practice standards.

Risk Management and Patient Safety

• Investigate incidents, adverse events, near misses, and patient complaints.

• Lead root cause analyses and corrective action planning.

• Promote a culture of patient safety throughout the organization.

• Participate in emergency preparedness planning, drills, and response activities.

Operational Management

• Assist with development and management of departmental budgets.

• Monitor staffing effectiveness and productivity.

• Ensure adequate supplies, equipment, medications, and resources are available for patient care.

• Participate in strategic planning and organizational initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Working knowledge of CMS ASC Conditions for Coverage.

• Knowledge of Joint Commission ambulatory care and deemed status standards.

• Knowledge of infection prevention, quality management, and patient safety principles.

• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

• Ability to analyze quality metrics and implement performance improvement initiatives.

• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage change effectively.

Compliance Responsibilities

The Director of Nursing is accountable for ensuring compliance with

• CMS Ambulatory Surgical Center Conditions for Coverage (42 CFR Part 416).

• Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment requirements.

• Joint Commission Ambulatory Care and ASC standards.

• OSHA requirements.

• HIPAA Privacy and Security Rules.

• Facility policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required

• Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.

• Current unrestricted Registered Nurse Colorado or compact license.

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).

• Minimum three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience.

• Minimum two (2) years of supervisory or management experience in surgical services or an ambulatory surgery center.

• Current BLS certification. Within 90 days of employment.

• Current ACLS certification, within 90 days of employment.

• Current PALS certification, within 90 days of employment.

Preferred

• Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field.

• CNOR or CNAMB certification.

• Leadership experience in an ASC environment.

• Experience with CMS certification surveys and Joint Commission accreditation surveys.

Pay: $120,000.00 - $145,000.00 per year
