Providence Academy is a Christian Independent school that was founded in 2013 with a mission _“to provide uncompromising excellence in educating and equipping students with Truth.”_ The school serves over 200 students in Junior Kindergarten – 8th grade. The school seeks a passionate, caring, skilled, and creative part-time school nurse. This individual will engage students when they come to the nurse clinic for aid. The school nurse will have medical knowledge and training. The school nurse interacts with other part time nurses, all staff, and students and therefore should possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to handle crisis situations.

Responsibilities

*

_Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to) the following:_

  • Works to provide a safe and healthy school environment including monitoring of immunizations, managing communicable diseases and spearheading infection control measures.
  • Be available to answer phone calls/emails from parents/teachers or meet children in the clinic for assessment and aid.
  • Carries out communicable disease prevention and infection control based on current guideline for universal precautions, prevention of blood borne pathogens and hazardous medical waste disposal.
  • Maintains and reviews comprehensive school health records and immunizations yearly of all students.
  • Collaborates with school administrators and personnel in assessing and improving the social and emotional climate of students and faculty.
  • Responds to frequently encountered health issues (bumps, slips, cuts, headaches, etc), providing aid, counseling, and crisis intervention as required by state and local policy.
  • Acts as a resource in health education for school personnel, students and families.
  • Maintain an open line of communication with families, caregivers, and faculty. Provide updates regarding pertinent information on the wellbeing of students to teachers/staff.
  • Recognizes and supports faith and spirituality as integral and indispensable part of human health and wellness.
  • Develops and reviews annually procedures for intervention for acute illness and injury. Provides these interventions to Providence students and employees as needed.
  • Assumes responsibility for continuing professional development; obtains expert consultation, supervision, and peer review as needed.
  • Demonstrate current knowledge in such areas as (1) professional issues in school nursing, (2) school and community health, (3) communicable disease control, (4) health assessment, and (5) injury prevention and emergency care.
  • Prepare first aid bags for all classrooms and field trips. Prepare medical information packet for all field trips.

  • Must maintain current certification in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and medication administration training (MAT) from a recognized provider.
  • Should have a minimum of two years of supervised nursing/medical experience, in community health, pediatrics, or emergency care.
  • Hold an associate or baccalaureate degree in nursing, or other medical field, from an accredited college or university program in nursing.
  • Preferred but not required: A valid license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
