About this role

Relief Veterinarian | Boston, MA We are working with a growing network of established small animal general practices, urgent care centres and emergency hospitals across the Greater Boston area that regularly require reliable Relief Veterinarians. There is flexibility around the days, frequency and type of work available. Whether you are looking for one consistent shift each week, several regular days or occasional dates alongside your existing commitments, we can explore opportunities that fit your schedule and clinical interests. You do not need to be comfortable working across every type of hospital. General practice veterinarians can focus solely on GP opportunities, while doctors with urgent care or emergency experience can access shifts suited to their background. The aim is to connect you with hospitals where you can work confidently and provide high quality medicine within your preferred clinical environment. Depending on the setting, caseloads may include wellness and preventative care, sick appointments, same day cases, minor injuries, urgent medical presentations, emergency triage and stabilisation. There may also be opportunities to perform routine surgery and dentistry for veterinarians who wish to include procedures within their relief schedule. The hospitals are supported by experienced veterinary technicians, assistants and client service teams who help obtain patient histories, prepare rooms, collect samples, run diagnostics and assist with treatments. Available facilities and resources will vary by location but may include in house laboratory testing, digital radiography, ultrasound, dentistry and surgical capabilities. Working hours, appointment volumes, support levels and clinical expectations will be discussed before shifts are confirmed. This ensures that you understand the hospital environment and caseload before committing to an assignment. Key Highlights • Regular relief opportunities throughout Greater Boston • Network of general practice, urgent care and emergency hospitals • Flexibility to choose the clinical environments that suit your experience • Options for regular weekly coverage or individual relief dates • Availability considered across weekdays and weekends • Daytime and evening opportunities may be available • Varied caseload covering preventative, medical, urgent and emergency care • Opportunity to perform surgery and dentistry if desired • Experienced veterinary technician and assistant support • Hospital expectations discussed before accepting each assignment • No requirement to work within emergency or urgent care if you prefer general practice About You • DVM or equivalent degree allowing you to practise veterinary medicine in the US • You hold an active Massachusetts veterinary licence • Comfortable working within small animal general practice, urgent care or emergency medicine • Able to manage cases independently while collaborating with the wider hospital team • Strong clinical judgement and clear client communication skills • Dependable, adaptable and comfortable joining different practice environments • Emergency and urgent care experience is welcomed but not required for general practice assignments • Routine surgery and dentistry experience would be beneficial but is not essential • Previous relief experience is helpful, although veterinarians new to relief work are encouraged to enquire Benefits • Access to regular relief work across the Greater Boston area • Choice of general practice, urgent care or emergency opportunities • Freedom to select dates and shifts around your existing commitments • Competitive relief rates based on the hospital and assignment • Ability to gain experience across a range of clinical environments • Opportunity to build ongoing relationships with hospitals you enjoy working with • Working hours and expectations communicated before each booking • No long term full time commitment • Continued support from Atlas Relief throughout each assignment Next Steps If you are interested, hit “Apply” or, for a confidential chat to discuss your availability, experience and preferred type of relief work, simply email ryan@atlasconsultancygroup.com or call the office on (980) 202 4966. Worth asking

The posting doesn’t answer these. Good ones to ask a recruiter or in the interview.

  • Can you walk me through the base pay range and differentials?
  • What should I expect for weekly hours, weekend, holiday, call, and rotation?
  • What orientation, preceptor time, and ongoing unit support are included?
  • How are patient load, floating, and staffing support handled day to day?
