Responsibilities

To provide health care services to students and staff.

Principal

Duties

(essential functions)

Directs health care of students and staff who are injured, need first aid, suffering from chronic illnesses or requires supervision of their medications. Conducts school programs of physical examinations and sight and hearing screenings. Refers students and parents to appropriate healthcare resources within the community.

Makes recommendations to principal on health needs of individual students. Maintains current cumulative health records on all students. Completes daily logs and other reports as required.

Maintains immunization records as it relates to illnesses. Implements policy on exclusion and readmission. Assists in developing school health programs.

Visits student homes when necessary Conducts parent education and classroom teaching on dental and hygiene programs. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills Required

Knowledge of federal and state rules, policies and requirements as they relate to student health. Knowledge of nursing policies and practices. Knowledge of public health policies, programs and practices. Knowledge of community health resources and programs. Skill in performing nursing assessments. Skill in monitoring health conditions of students. Skill in making appropriate referrals. Skill in operating office equipment and computer hardware and software applications. Skill in communicating orally and in writing. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications

Registered graduate nurse with additional coursework in public health nursing preferred. Bilingual preferred. IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card

Required license/

Certification

State of Arizona Board Certified Registered Nursing License, CPR Certification and Hearing Testing Certification.
