This is a preferred position and a panel style interview will be conducted. To qualify for an interview you must fill out a COMPLETE application . This position will close to all applicants on August 13th, 2026 at 11:59 p.m. Interviews anticipated to be completed by September 13th, 2026. Union: NM&NCM II This position is Full time FTE: 1.0 (80 hrs/per pay) 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m Three (3) years of clinical experience as a Registered Nurse is required (please show this on your application) Maintains overall responsibility and accountability for management and clinical activities on assigned Nursing unit/area. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Ensures compliance with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior and Management Code of Conduct. Works under the direction of a Vice President, Administrator, or designee. Exercises full supervision over Nurses and ancillary Nursing personnel assigned to the unit/area. Formulates and recommends goals and objectives for the assigned unit/area. Develops plans to accomplish agreed-upon goals. Completes an annual budget projecting unit needs. Implements cost control procedures. Monitors unit performance in achieving budgetary standards. Participates in the development of policies, procedures, and standards as applied to assigned unit. Interprets and maintains compliance with same to insure efficient and effective nursing care. Interviews, selects, directs, counsels, and evaluates subordinates. Initiates appropriate corrective actions. Effectively recommends discharge as appropriate. Answers grievances. Maintains balanced schedule with personnel available. Supervises preparation of nursing care plans for individual patients, as indicated by professional judgment and in support of medical staff's treatment plan. Monitors plan implementation and necessary modification. Ensures timely completion of discharge planning on every patient by utilization of appropriate resources. Plans and assists in the teaching of health care concepts to patients and significant others. Acts as liaison between patients, physician and significant others. Supervises maintenance of accurate and descriptive documentation of patient's treatment, tests, and nursing care. Reviews to identify situations requiring medical staff attention. Actively participates in departmental quality assurance efforts and audits. Implements corrective action to decrease identified deficiencies. Communicates with other departments to coordinate efforts and resolve operational problems. Establishes and maintains effective interdepartmental working relationships. Identifies educational and training needs of unit personnel. Promotes development through educational programs and specific task assignments. Participates in development and revision of written orientation plans for new employees. Serves as a consultant in area of clinical expertise. Provides direct nursing care to patients as necessary to meet the needs for provision of quality care. Investigates and resolves, when possible, problems and complaints of patients, visitors, and Medical Center staff. Refers unresolved complaints as appropriate. Assures proper storage and utilization of medications, supplies and equipment. Maintains knowledge of research and progress in specific fields of patient care through appropriate educational and organizational activities. Demonstrates effective judgment and ability to understand, react effectively, and treat (if appropriate) the unique needs of patient age groups served. Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Health Care Administration or Management related field will be considered. Applicants with a Diploma of Nursing or Associates Degree in Nursing, please see Special Note. Five (5) years of professional nursing experience including at least two (2) years in the clinical sub-class. Must obtain BLS certification upon start of position and must maintain certification per AHA guidelines. Knowledge of general nursing principles and practices. Knowledge of medications and treatments. Knowledge of materials, supplies, and equipment required. Knowledge of training and supervisory techniques. Knowledge of employee policies and procedures. Ability to instruct, direct, and evaluate employees. Ability to assess the effectiveness of nursing care. Ability to maintain records, prepare reports, and compose correspondence. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to work harmoniously with patients; patient families; physicians; medical center staff; Federal, State, Local, and accreditation agencies, and the general public. NECESSARY SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Current Michigan licensure as a Registered Nurse. SPECIAL NOTE: Incumbents possessing a Diploma or Associates Degree must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor's Degree or Master's Degree program in one of the above qualifying areas. Degree must be completed within two (2) years from date of permanent appointment to this classification. Failure to attain a qualifying Bachelor or Master's degree shall result in the employee's termination.
