Responsibilities

A professional nurse is an individual accountable for the care of a group of patients. The Registered Nurse (RN) focuses on safe effective patient and family centered care, customer satisfaction and quality outcomes. The RN is responsible for assisting in maintaining a financially stable unit, promoting his/her own development with an emphasis on evidence based practice and education supported by a Practice Governance framework.

The RN supervises licensed and non-licensed staff members. Applying the caring processes of the Kristin M. Swanson Model of Care, the RN has the responsibility to assess, develop, implement and evaluate the plan of care. The RN focuses on patient and family comforts, education and satisfaction.

The RN applies his/her educational and professional experiences in the delivery of quality care and mentoring/precepting staff.

Louisville is Derby City on the Ohio, where Southern food and bourbon meet Midwest prices, and a nurse's paycheck still buys a neighborhood with a name. Young professionals actually live in The Highlands on Bardstown Road, Clifton and Crescent Hill along Frankfort Avenue, Germantown, and pricier, safer Cherokee Triangle beside 389-acre Cherokee Park; east-side Jeffersontown and Saint Matthews trade walkability for yards and malls. Downtown gives you Waterfront Park, the Big Four Bridge, the Slugger Museum, and the Yum! Center, but parking is tight and TARC is the only transit—plan on a car in a spread-out city with a 22-minute average commute. Housing is the draw: citywide three-bedrooms list around $275,000 as of mid-2026, with Clifton and the Highlands often under $200,000, while Cherokee Triangle and river lofts climb past $400,000. The tradeoffs are not subtle. Summers are wet and punishing, allergens and air quality bother many, crime runs high, and public schools are uneven. If you want four seasons, Olmsted parks, Churchill Downs, and a relaxed cost of living without coastal rents, pick your corridor carefully and budget for driving.
