Neighborhoods+Within Princeton proper, Downtown offers walkable access to shops and cultural spots, though residential options are predominantly high-end. The Western Section features prestigious, historic early-20th-century architecture on large lots, while Riverside provides quiet, tree-lined suburban living close to canal trails. Littlebrook is a close-knit, family-focused enclave surrounding its local elementary school. Because local housing within municipal borders is notoriously expensive, many professionals and commuters look toward surrounding communities such as East Windsor, Hightstown, and Bridgewater, or cross the river into Bucks County, Pennsylvania towns like Yardley and Newtown.

Getting around+Commuting by car centers around US Route 1, the New Jersey Turnpike, and regional arterial roads, though US 1 can experience notable peak congestion during the academic year. For public transit, the historic shuttle train known locally as 'The Dinky' links the campus station at Alexander Street directly to the Princeton Junction station on the Northeast Corridor. From Princeton Junction, frequent NJ Transit trains serve destinations toward New York City and Philadelphia. Local transit needs are supported by NJ Transit bus routes and the TigerTransit shuttle system.

Outdoors+Outdoor recreation is anchored by the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park, where miles of canal-side paths accommodate jogging, cycling, and walking. Residents regularly canoe and kayak on Lake Carnegie or visit Princeton Battlefield State Park, which combines expansive green space with Revolutionary War history. A short drive away, the expansive Grounds For Sculpture in Hamilton provides outdoor art walks, while nearby apple orchards and farm markets like Terhune Orchards offer family-oriented seasonal outings.

Living in Princeton
Princeton offers healthcare professionals a rare blend of collegiate energy, centuries-old historic character, and pastoral Central Jersey scenery. Centered on the pedestrian vitality of Palmer Square and Nassau Street, the town pairs premier cultural institutions like the McCarter Theatre Center and the Princeton University Art Museum with vibrant local dining at spots like Agricola and Triumph Brewing. For active downtime, runners and paddlers can retreat to Lake Carnegie and the gravel towpaths of the Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park.
The major tradeoff for relocating nurses is the local real estate climate. With historic homes in prestigious neighborhoods like the Western Section and Littlebrook commanding premium values and steep property taxes, Princeton proper can be difficult to access on a single hospital income. As a practical alternative, many nurses commute via Route 1 or the New Jersey Turnpike from nearby, more accessible communities like East Windsor, Hightstown, or Yardley, Pennsylvania. Transit riders also benefit from 'The Dinky' shuttle train connecting to Princeton Junction for rapid service across the Northeast Corridor, making the wider region manageable and connected.
