PRN Infusion Registered Nurse

Duties

• Administer physician-ordered intravenous infusion therapies and injectable medications in accordance with established clinical protocols.

• Perform peripheral IV insertion and maintain IV access throughout treatment.

• Complete appropriate pre-infusion patient assessments, including vital signs and review of treatment requirements.

• Verify physician orders, medication, dosage, patient identity, and required laboratory or clinical information prior to administration.

• Monitor patients throughout treatment for tolerance, adverse reactions, and changes in condition.

• Recognize and respond appropriately to infusion reactions or other medical emergencies in accordance with physician-approved protocols.

• Document infusion-related care accurately and completely within the practice's electronic health record.

• Coordinate with the physician and practice staff regarding patient readiness, treatment scheduling, laboratory requirements, and follow-up needs.

• Assist with medication receiving, storage, preparation processes, inventory tracking, and medication reconciliation as appropriate.

• Maintain appropriate infection-control, medication-safety, and patient-safety standards.

• Ensure infusion chairs, equipment, supplies, and emergency resources are appropriately prepared for scheduled patients.

• Educate patients regarding their infusion experience, expected monitoring, and physician-approved post-treatment instructions.

• Communicate clinical or operational concerns promptly to the treating physician.

• Participate in the continued development and improvement of infusion workflows, policies, and procedures.

Qualifications

Required

• Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in the Commonwealth of Virginia .

• Current BLS certification.

• Strong peripheral IV insertion skills.

• Experience administering IV medications and monitoring patients during infusion therapy.

• Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to infusion reactions and medical emergencies.

• Strong clinical documentation and communication skills.

• Ability to work independently within established physician orders and clinical protocols.

• Commitment to patient safety, confidentiality, and high-quality patient care.

Preferred

• Previous outpatient infusion-center experience.

• Experience in rheumatology, immunology, gastroenterology, oncology, or another specialty utilizing biologic or specialty infusion therapies.

• Familiarity with biologic medications and physician-administered therapies.

• Experience with medication inventory and buy-and-bill environments.

• ACLS certification.

• Experience helping establish or improve an outpatient infusion program.

Rheumatology Center of Northern Virginia is an independent rheumatology practice in Sterling, Virginia, focused on providing personalized specialty care to patients with rheumatologic and autoimmune conditions. The practice is expanding its services to include an in-office infusion program designed to provide patients with convenient access to physician-directed specialty therapies.

Pay: $36.00 - $45.00 per hour
