Getting around+Augusta is car-dependent (Walk Score 22, Bike Score 33); most residents drive for commuting and errands, especially outside pedestrian-friendly downtown. Augusta Transit exists but coverage is limited and waits can be lengthy. Typical metro commute is about 18 minutes. Grovetown traffic toward Fort Eisenhower is described as manageable; named in-town routes include Walton Way, Walton Way Extension, Wheeler Road, and Scott Nixon Memorial Drive. Sources do not detail hospital-campus parking, but Augusta University's medical college is the primary healthcare employment hub in the city core.

Outdoors+Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is the go-to for quiet trails and hiking; the Augusta Canal Trail and The Greenway handle walking and biking. The Savannah River supports boating, fishing, and kayaking, while Clarks Hill Lake (Lake Thurmond) is the larger reservoir for the same. Evans Towne Center Park functions as a community gathering spot, and golf is year-round well beyond tournament week. About 218 sunny days and mild winters keep outdoor life open in the cold months; groups such as Collective 706 and Peach State Hiker Babes organize hikes.

Living in Augusta
Augusta sits on the Savannah River as Georgia's second-largest city, anchored by Augusta University's medical college, Fort Eisenhower, and the Masters—making healthcare, military, and golf the civic backbone a nurse will feel immediately. The draw is stretch: median homes around $200,000-$220,000, one-bedrooms near $1,050, and a cost of living well below the national average, so an $80k-$150k salary buys suburban space in Martinez, Evans, or Grovetown rather than a cramped apartment. Columbia County suburbs offer the schools and newer housing families want; Summerville and downtown deliver historic walkability and Riverwalk dining. You will need a car—Walk Score 22, thin Augusta Transit—but typical commutes run about 18 minutes. Tradeoffs are real: June-August heat and humidity with 90 F-plus days, quieter nightlife than Atlanta, and a food scene that locals either praise (Pho Viet, Craft & Vine, Frog Hollow) or dismiss. Year-round outdoor life is the compensation—Phinizy Swamp, the Augusta Canal Trail, Clarks Hill Lake, and 218 sunny days. It is a car-centric, affordable medical-military town, not a 24-hour city.
