HUSHABYE NURSERY

Founded by Tara Sundem, a neonatal nurse practitioner, the organization was born from her firsthand experience witnessing the challenges faced by opioid-exposed newborns and their families. Hushabye Nursery provides a continuum of care from conception through childhood, offering prenatal and postpartum support groups, inpatient nursery services, and outpatient therapies in a safe, inclusive environment. The organization operates with a holistic, integrative care model that combines medical and behavioral health services. Nurses at Hushabye Nursery work alongside AmeriCorps Family Support Aides and behavioral health professionals to deliver evidence-based interventions to infants experiencing NAS and provide supportive services to families. The work is highly specialized and mission-driven, focusing on breaking generational cycles of trauma and addiction. As a smaller specialty organization, it offers nurses a unique opportunity to work in a niche area of neonatal care, though the limited size may affect career advancement opportunities and job availability.
