Who they are
Marbridge Foundation is a non-profit residential community in Manchaca, Texas, serving 275 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). Founded in 1953 by Ed and Marge Bridges, it is one of the oldest and most established intentional IDD communities in the United States.
More about Marbridge Foundation
The campus comprises three distinct communities offering both transitional and lifetime care, providing residents with opportunities to learn, experience, and achieve a fulfilling life. Unlike traditional institutions of its era, Marbridge was designed from the outset as a community-focused residential environment. For nursing professionals, Marbridge offers a unique setting distinct from acute care hospitals or traditional nursing homes. RNs work closely with the Director of Nursing and physicians to manage resident health, including medication oversight, monthly health checks, physician order documentation, and staff training. The role also involves ensuring compliance with state regulations and supporting ongoing health and safety education. Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVNs) and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) are also part of the care team. Employee testimonials suggest a deeply mission-driven workplace where nurses build meaningful, long-term connections with residents, with one LVN describing the community as holding a special place in her heart and another nurse transitioning from agency work to full-time employment after experiencing the culture firsthand.
Marbridge's mission is to empower adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to learn, experience, and achieve. Their vision encompasses a world where every adult with IDD thrives with dignity, purpose, and joy; communities are truly inclusive with barriers dissolved and independence achievable; and innovation leads the way in transforming care through innovation and compassion.
