South Shore Educational Collaborative

Students are referred by school districts throughout southeastern Massachusetts when the district has been unable to meet the student's educational and/or emotional needs. The organization operates multiple schools and programs, each with a specific focus tailored to individual student learning requirements. Nursing roles at SSEC are highly specialized and differ from traditional clinical settings. The 1:1 Nurse position, for example, combines skilled nursing care with instructional support for a student with complex medical needs, integrating the nurse directly into the classroom environment. Nurses may be required to manage tracheostomy care, gastrostomy tubes, and other complex medical interventions while supporting the student's educational goals. The role demands physical capability, including lifting and physically managing students. Both RN and LPN candidates are considered for nursing positions. The organization emphasizes a collaborative model where nursing staff work closely with educators, therapists, and other specialists. SSEC employs a range of staff including paraprofessionals, counselors, teachers, and nurses, all working within a structured educational framework governed by Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education regulations.

The South Shore Educational Collaborative is 'responsive to the emerging needs of communities by proactively' developing instructional and therapeutic programs for students with disabilities. The organization aims to meet the individual learning needs of each student or adult enrolled, serving those with autism, emotional, specific learning, medical, or physical disabilities, including those with multiple disabilities.
