About this role

Basic Function and Distinguishing Characteristics

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, provide a variety of nursing services, educational activities and health counseling related to the identification, treatment, prevention and control of illness, disease and other medical conditions; screen and evaluate medical conditions and provide treatment, immunizations and various other services to the public.

The Community Health Nurse II is the advanced-level classification in the series. Incumbents work with a high degree of independence and require thorough knowledge of assigned nursing programs and services. The Community Health Nurse I classification is the entry-level classification in the series. Incumbents work under close supervision and provide a variety of nursing services related to the identification, treatment, prevention and control of illness, disease and other medical conditions.

Education And Experience/ Licenses And Other Requirements

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from a recognized college with diploma or degree as a Registered Nurse and one year experience providing nursing services.

Valid Registered Nurse license issued by the California Board of Registered Nursing.

Valid California driver’s license.

Supplemental Information

A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment and employees may also be required to drive their own vehicle and provide proof of liability insurance as per Vehicle Code VC

This position may require pre-employment drug test, physical examination, and fingerprinting for a background investigation.
