Position Overview Provides direct and indirect care in the inpatient setting. Communicates with physicians, DON, Therapy Dept., and co workers, as appropriate about changes in patients clinical condition including results of diagnostic studies and symptomatology. Can respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, can perform general nursing duties with adequate supervision.

Key Responsibilities ? Knowledge of medications and their correct administration based on age of the patient and their clinical condition. ? Follows the five medication rights and reduces the potential for medication errors. ?

Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patients age. ? Able to perform a head to toe assessment on all patients and reassessments as per policy. This includes adult, geriatric, and the general patient population. ?

Able to revise plan of care as indicated by the patients response to treatment and evaluate overall plan daily for effectiveness. ? Consults with therapy staff daily to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patients needs and documents patients status to include rehabilitation therapy progress. ? Demonstrates an ability to assist physicians with procedures and perform services requiring technical and manual skills. ?

Able to adequately assist and reassess pain. Utilizes appropriate pain management techniques. Educates the patient and family regarding pain management. ?

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical health care errors. ? Formulates a teaching plan based upon identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate. ? Demonstrates ability to perform treatments and provide services to the level of licensure. ?

Communicates appropriately and clearly to DON, coworkers, physicians and the Therapy Department staff. ? Integrates the nursing plan of care with the Therapy Department treatment plan to attain the patients optimal level of functioning. ? Participates in patient care conferences. ?

Provides care appropriate to the condition and age of the patient, including adult, geriatric and general population. ? Obtain intravenous access as needed and administer intravenous medications according to scope of practice. ? Perform venipuncture according to order to assist physicians with care and diagnosis. ?

Perform skin wound assessment every shift. Provides wound care as ordered by physician or another licensed provider. ? Demonstrates and ability to be effective, flexible, well organized and function well under stressful situations, to provide proper patient care. ?

Demonstrates competency in the following areas: Duties and Responsibilities. ? Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality. ? Interacts professionally with patient family and involves patient family in the formation of the plan of care. ?

Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments. ? Maintains stock supply levels on unit. Notifies charge nurse or DON when supplies are low. ?

Ensures QC is completed: Check and record refrigerator temperature checks, CBG checks and eye wash station. ? Orders medication from the pharmacy to ensure that OTC medications are not ordered, and an adequate amount of PRN medications are available. ? Verifies all pharmacy deliveries.

Refuses delivery of medication for discharged patients or discontinued medication. ? Documentation meets current standards and policies. ? Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family; communicates with Social Services Discharge Planner regarding both hospital and post discharge needs. ?

Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. ? Coordinates and supervises patient care as necessary. ? Skills Checklists Competencies submitted timely. ?

Follows United Medical Hospital Corporate Compliance Code of Conduct as evidenced through practice, performance, and attendance of annual review programs in services. ? Performs other duties as assigned or directed to ensure smooth operation of the organization.
