ASC Peri-Op Registered Nurse

Duties

• Ensures the PREOP/PACU area has a clean and therapeutic environment for all patients at all times, supplies and equipment needed are available and in good working order

• Admits the patient to the unit and prepares the patient for the scheduled procedure.

• Monitors the patient’s mental and physical condition and reports any significant changes to the admitting physician or anesthesiologist.

• Assures surgical consent and preoperative test results are in the medical record prior to proposed procedure.

• Reports any important health history facts to the operating room nurse.

• Performs accurate and complete documentation in the medical record.

• Assures that the patient meets the documented criteria prior to discharge.

• Gives patients and family members emotional support as necessary and effectively communicates all relevant instructions.

• Adheres to established Center/departmental policies and procedures

• Maintains confidentiality of patient and Center related business

• Develops and maintains an effective working relationship with patients, families, visitors and other Center employees

• Participates in Quality Assessment activities as directed for the continuous improvement of patient care and Center business

• Adheres to staffing schedules, attendance policy, and cooperates with daily assignments as requested.

• Demonstrates skills as a team player. As a Registered Nurse, shows appropriate delegation, while directing and supervising ancillary personnel in planning

• Demonstrates ability to solve problems timely and constructively; maintains focus on improving the situation.

• Willingness to teach others and participate in competency programs.

• Participates in all staff meetings for department and facility for informative and educational purposes.

Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Arizona - Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

• BLS/ACLS required

• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a clinical setting preferred

• Strong knowledge of infection control practices and protocols

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members
