Role Description The Registered Nurse role at Opelousas General Health System is a full-time, on-site position based in Opelousas, LA.

The Registered Nurse provides direct patient care, including assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing interventions in collaboration with physicians and the healthcare team. Daily responsibilities include monitoring patient conditions, administering medications and treatments, performing procedures within scope of practice, and documenting care accurately in the medical record. The nurse educates patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, medications, and discharge plans, promoting understanding and adherence to care instructions.

The role also involves coordinating with interdisciplinary teams, adhering to infection control and safety protocols, and supporting quality improvement initiatives to enhance patient outcomes and satisfaction. Qualifications Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Louisiana (or eligibility to obtain); graduation from an accredited nursing program (Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing preferred). Demonstrated clinical skills in patient assessment, medication administration, and nursing care planning, with the ability to respond appropriately to changes in patient condition.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple patients, and maintain accurate, timely documentation in electronic health records. Knowledge of infection control practices, patient safety standards, and hospital policies; commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous learning.

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) and other specialty certifications (e.g., PALS,) are preferred based on unit needs. Experience in an acute care hospital setting is preferred; new graduates with strong clinical training and a willingness to learn will be considered.
