Performs state mandated screenings and prepares reports. Provides direct nursing service for routine and emergency situations and prepares and maintains medical records. Applies considerable judgment and interpretation in unusual or nonstandard situations.

Prepares parent referrals of students to physicians, social services, hospitals, and other health services. Confers with and advises school administrators regarding student health issues, including student medical concerns, parent medical concerns, health emergency procedures, and special education needs. Prepares and evaluates health care plans for students, as needed.

Delivers health/medical training to bus drivers, food service staff, faculty, administrators, and other school staff. Participates in Medicaid billing process. Participates as a member of the IEP team and 504 committee.

Collaborates with parents, medical providers, and LCPS staff to manage health issues safely and appropriately at school.

Qualifications

Education

Bachelor's degree in Nursing

Experience

One year of experience as a registered nurse

Licensed and Certifications

Licensure as a Registered Nurse

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Knowledge of nursing and health care practices as applied to children and youth
  • Ability to provide effective nursing and related health services for students
  • Ability to keep abreast of medical practices in the field
  • Ability to deal effectively with students requiring health assistance
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. The employee must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies. Frequently sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position for long periods of time. Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
