RN - OR Circulator - PRN

May act as scrub nurse or circulating nurse during operative procedures. Checks medical gas alarm panel and sterilizers required by the day's surgery schedule for proper functioning. Assists Scrub Tech with opening supplies for case.

Prepares patient for surgery by verifying patient identity and scheduled procedure and assists patient into OR. Helps to relieve patient's apprehension before and during administration of anesthesia. Remains at patient's side during induction.

Performs surgical prep. Makes available additional instruments and supplies as requested during the operation. Records vital signs and gives medications as ordered.

Counts sponges and needles. Assists in transferring patient to PACU. Assists with post-op call to patient and documents call and patient's responses.

Takes inventory and restocks supplies as needed in O. R. As scrub nurse: Assists with draping patient, arranges instruments and supplies, opens and prepares sutures, assists Surgeon throughout operation, assures sterile field is maintained. Demonstrates effective communication skills. Complies with safety and emergency procedures.

Participates in unit cost containment measures.
