Job Responsibilities/

Requirements

The RN will help ensure the safety, security, and overall well-being of the children at Bluebonnet Haven.

The Nurse is responsible for all areas of the nursing department. This involves the following job

duties

  • Making sure that all staff are adequately trained in assessing and treating clients for minor illnesses and injuries and when and how to contact the nurse and/or emergency services (911) at all times.
  • Document all resident injuries and illnesses as required and maintain local copies as well as submit copies to be filed.
  • Ensure that all medications are counted, recorded, and documented correctly.
  • Make sure that all medications are labelled correctly.
  • Order medications in a timely manner to ensure that medications do not run out and are stocked as necessary.
  • Implement all physician orders; make sure all are implemented in the houses by the staff.
  • Provide basic wound care and dental care
  • Supervise direct care staff in infection control
  • Supervision of the maintenance of medical records
  • Schedule and coordinate with medical, dental, and mental health professionals within the required deadlines and ensure all follow-up care is provided and appropriate to the type and urgency of need as recommended by the treating medical professional
  • Provide medical, dental, and mental health professionals with medical charts and information as requested.
  • Conduct pre-employment and random drug screenings.
  • Provide and read TB tests for potential employees.
  • Train and monitor staff in medication administration.

All staff will be instructed to call 911 in a medical emergency situation and provide first aid or CPR as necessary. In a medical emergency situation the Nurse will assist staff in providing medical care to the child in care after 911 has been called while waiting for emergency medical professionals to arrive.

The Nurse will utilize the TBRI® and Satori training they have received in order to help manage behavioral concerns in our children. The TBRI® principles of empowerment, connecting, and correcting will be used continuously throughout the daily routines of our children and the de-escalation and restraint techniques of Satori will be used as needed with our children to help to better control crisis situations.

The Nurse must maintain professional boundaries with all Bluebonnet Haven employees and demonstrate professional and courteous working relationships with all Bluebonnet Haven employees and all outside entities.

The Nurse must at all times demonstrate professional, healthy boundaries with the children at Bluebonnet Haven.

The Nurse must adhere to Bluebonnet Haven’s Operational Policies, Confidentiality Policies, Abuse & Neglect Policies, and Employee Handbook.

All employees of Bluebonnet Haven are considered mandated reporters of suspected child abuse or neglect as required by law. The Nurse must understand and adhere to Bluebonnet Haven’s policy for documenting and reporting any suspected child abuse or neglect.

A BH employee’s behavior or health status must not present a danger to children in care. Each employee must:

  • Meet the requirements in Minimum Standards relating to Background Check;
  • Complete the Drug Test Screening;
  • Complete the TB Screening, or Have a record of tuberculosis screening showing the employee is free of contagious TB;
  • Be physically, mentally, and emotionally capable of performing assigned tasks and have the skills necessary to perform assigned tasks;
  • Complete a notarized Licensing Affidavit for Applicants of Employment form, as specified in Human Resources Code, §42.059.

Regardless of whether the employee is counted in the child/caregiver ratio, each employee must:

  • In the absence of a more specific rule requirement, demonstrate competency, prudent judgment, and self-control in the presence of children and when performing assigned responsibilities;
  • Report suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation to the Child Abuse Hotline and to the LCCA; All staff will receive pre-service training and annual training in reporting suspected abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
  • Know and comply with rules of this chapter, Chapter 42 of the Human Resources Code, Chapter 745 of Minimum Standards (relating to Licensing), and any other laws which are relevant to the person’s duties; The HR Director will review and explain all pertinent information with each new hire and annual trainings will review this information.

Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $58,000.00 per year
