The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a Clinical Nurse to join the Head & Neck/Plastics Reconstruction inpatient unit. The Clinical Nurse plays a vital role in delivering specialized care to patients with complex needs, including airway management, microvascular flap monitoring, and advanced wound care. The Clinical Nurse will work in a highly collaborative environment, supporting multidisciplinary care teams and contributing to high-quality patient outcomes.

The ideal candidate for the Clinical Nurse role will demonstrate a strong foundation in clinical nursing practice, the ability to manage complex patient care needs, and a commitment to collaboration and continuous learning. Minimum $32.69 - Midpoint $50.58 - Maximum $68.51 Days and Nights available, 7pm - 7am or 7am - 7pm with a workweek of 36 hours including weekends.

Responsibilities

Patient Care Delivery

  • Manage and provide comprehensive patient care within the assigned inpatient unit
  • Assess patient needs and coordinate care with the multidisciplinary team
  • Collaborate with physicians, services, patients, and families to plan and evaluate care
  • Deliver safe, compassionate care including medication administration and procedures
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and complex clinical situations

Clinical Practice & Quality Improvement

  • Integrate research findings and theoretical knowledge into clinical practice
  • Participate in data collection efforts for current clinical studies
  • Demonstrate clinical competency in specialized areas such as airway management and wound care

Documentation & Systems Use

  • Document patient care in accordance with established standards
  • Access, input, and retrieve patient information using computer systems

Care Coordination & Advocacy

  • Ensure continuity of care through discharge planning and patient education
  • Coordinate services to support transitions of care
  • Advocate for patient and family rights and needs

Team Support & Development

  • Train, coach, and assist team members to support optimal patient care
  • Promote efficient use of resources and collaborative team performance

Education

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing. Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Nursing.

Work experience

Required: None Preferred: Two years experience in a hospital setting working in oncology

Licenses and certifications

Required: RN - Registered Nurse - State Licensure Current State of Texas Professional Nursing license. Upon Hire and Required: ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support Upon Hire and Required: PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support If working in the following department: Nrsg Post Anesthesia Care Unit (600160).
