Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including reviewing patient histories and current health status
  • Educate patients and their families about surgical procedures, pre-op instructions, and post-operative care
  • Prepare patients for surgery by verifying consent, ensuring proper documentation, and addressing any concerns
  • Collaborate with surgical teams, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs and condition prior to surgery
  • Ensure all pre-operative protocols and safety procedures are followed
  • Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe pre-op environment

Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the relevant state or region
  • Proven experience in pre-operative or perioperative nursing preferred
  • Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, pre-op protocols, and patient safety standards
  • Excellent communication and patient education skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a team and handle stressful situations with professionalism
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification; additional certifications such as ACLS are a plus
