Job Title: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit Location: Show Low, Arizona Schedule: Full-Time | Night Shift | 12-Hour Shifts, 6:00 PM–6:30 AM Pay Range: $31.00–$47.00 per hour Openings: 2 Start Date: ASAP Job Overview A healthcare organization in Show Low, Arizona, is seeking experienced Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurses for permanent night-shift opportunities. The ICU RN will provide comprehensive critical-care nursing to medically complex and high-acuity patients in a 12-bed ICU with typical staffing ratios of approximately 1:2. The unit cares for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, vasoactive medications, invasive monitoring, post-cardiac intervention care, and management of complex medical emergencies. Candidates must have at least two years of ICU experience and be comfortable managing ventilators, critical-care drips, arterial lines, and rapidly changing patient conditions. Responsibilities Provide direct nursing care to critically ill and high-acuity patients Perform comprehensive assessments and frequent reassessments Maintain typical patient assignments of approximately 1:2 based on acuity Manage mechanically ventilated patients Monitor and care for patients with arterial lines and other invasive monitoring Administer and titrate critical-care medications and continuous IV infusions Recognize changes in patient condition and initiate rapid interventions Provide care to patients following cardiac catheterization and coronary interventions Manage patients with diagnoses and conditions such as: STEMI and other acute cardiac conditions Pneumonia and respiratory failure ARDS Sepsis DKA Atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response Renal failure Stroke following thrombolytic therapy Postoperative complications EVAR recovery Alcohol withdrawal and overdose Participate in therapeutic hypothermia/temperature-management protocols Provide care to patients requiring sedation and neuromuscular blockade Assist with management of intra-aortic balloon pump patients when appropriately trained Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacy, PCTs, HUCs, and other interdisciplinary team members Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, medications, and ongoing care Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation Follow infection-control, critical-care, medication-safety, and patient-safety standards Float to the Emergency Department or Medical-Surgical units when appropriately experienced and operationally necessary Common Critical-Care Medications The ICU manages a broad range of continuous infusions, including: Amiodarone Cardizem Levophed / Norepinephrine Precedex Propofol Fentanyl Vecuronium Dopamine Dobutamine Lasix Insulin Weight-based Heparin Qualifications Required Current Registered Nurse license or eligibility for Arizona licensure Minimum of two years of ICU nursing experience Current Basic Life Support certification Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification Current NIH Stroke Scale certification Experience with mechanical ventilation Experience administering and titrating critical-care drips Experience with basic ICU monitoring and equipment Strong cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and hemodynamic assessment skills Ability to recognize and respond rapidly to clinical deterioration Strong critical-thinking, prioritization, and emergency-response skills Ability to work 12-hour night shifts Availability for required weekend scheduling Preferred Experience caring for post-cardiac catheterization or post-PCI patients Experience with arterial lines Experience with therapeutic hypothermia or targeted temperature management Experience caring for patients with ARDS, sepsis, DKA, and acute stroke IABP experience; not required Emergency Department experience for candidates who may float to the ED Department Information 12-bed Intensive Care Unit Typical RN-to-patient ratio of approximately 1:2 Usually approximately 1–2 ventilated patients on the unit at any given time, although volume varies Respiratory Therapy available 24/7 Patient Care Technician and Health Unit Secretary support Administrative Shift Coordinator / House Supervisor available in-house 24/7 Nurse Manager available to assist with patient care when needed No open-heart surgery program No neurosurgery program No fresh transplant patients, although patients with a history of transplant may be admitted Schedule Full-time night shift 12-hour shifts: 6:00 PM–6:30 AM Modified self-scheduling Block scheduling accommodated when possible Minimum of 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule No routine on-call requirement May float to the Emergency Department or Medical-Surgical units when the nurse has appropriate experience Orientation New-hire orientation begins every Monday Unit-specific clinical orientation provided based on experience and competency Benefits Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications Comprehensive health and wellness benefits Retirement savings programs Paid time off Continuing-education and professional-development opportunities Critical-care nursing advancement opportunities Employee wellness and assistance programs If you are an experienced ICU RN who is confident managing ventilators, vasoactive drips, invasive monitoring, and complex high-acuity patients, we would love to hear from you.
