We offer our Graduate Registered Nurses clinical instruction and additional learning opportunities as they complete the Nurse Residency program.

The Hospital of Central Connecticut is an acute-care community teaching hospital, we provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services in general medicine and surgery, as well as a wide variety of specialties. Staffed by our talented team of leading professionals, The Hospital of Central Connecticut provides a wide array of services throughout the region, caring for patients from birth through the end of life.

Under the general direction of Nursing Leadership and in collaboration with a nurse preceptor and nurse educator along with an interdisciplinary team, the Registered Nurse Resident utilizes evidence-based practices in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act, and policies and procedures of the hospital. This position develops a plan of care, which includes standards of practice to meet the physical, emotional, spiritual, cultural, and educational needs of the patient and family.

Qualifications

Education

  • Completion of a formal Nursing program.
  • Associate’s degree in Nursing

Licensure, Certification, Registration

  • Registered Nurse, State of CT
  • Certified BLS Provider credentialed from the American Heart Association (AHA) obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date.
  • Additional certifications may be required in specific specialties

Language Skills

  • Must be able to effectively communicate information in English.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements

  • Applies the principles and practices of nursing.
  • Ability to develop, deliver and evaluate patient care.
  • Works towards caring for a full patient assignment with expanding scope of responsibilities over time.
  • Basic knowledge of high reliability.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Uses communication skills to foster a healthy work environment and facilitate positive patient outcomes and experience.
  • Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.
  • Applies knowledge of care for age specific populations.
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative team.
  • Self-directed in clinical responsibilities.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple clinical priorities.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and use of industry applications/programs. Ability to learn new technology and programs as advancements and changes are implemented.
