Job Summary

Critical care registered nurses are adept at providing care to patients who have suffered a heart attack, stroke, shock, severe trauma, respiratory distress, or other severe medical conditions. The ICU RN is responsible for delivering advanced nursing care, monitoring complex patient conditions, and responding to life-saving situations using established nursing standards and protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition and develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans
• Treat wounds and provide advanced life support
• Assist physicians during procedures
• Observe, record, and interpret patient vital signs
• Ensure ventilators, monitors, and other medical equipment are functioning properly
• Adjust ventilators and manage IABP support as needed
• Administer IV fluids and medications
• Perform suctioning and airway management
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary critical care team members
• Respond to emergency and life-saving situations using nursing protocols
• Act as patient advocate
• Provide education and emotional support to patient families
• Care for pre- and post-operative patients as needed
• May participate in case management and administrative support duties

Required Qualifications

• Current Texas RN License or Compact Multi-State RN License
• Minimum of 5 years of recent ICU/critical care RN experience
• Ventilator and tracheostomy experience required
• Current ACLS Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
• Current BLS Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA)
