Department Specific Competencies

Serves as an integral member of the Orthopedic Center of Excellence Program. Assesses and identifies nursing diagnoses and treats patient conditions for which orthopaedic patient are at risk, including but not limited to pan, impaired physical mobility, self-care deficits, impaired skin integrity, body image disturbance, and post-trauma response. Assesses, identifies nursing diagnoses and treat orthopaedic patient conditions such as total joint replacement (hip and knee).

Applies the nursing process as the basis for clinical judgment and decision making, nursing theory, and research, as well as specific orthopaedic knowledge. Collaborates with consumers and other member of the interdisciplinary health care team to ensure comprehensive orthopaedic education and treatment programs are established and maintained for a variety of health care settings. Cares for patients with musculoskeletal injuries, including use of immobilization and ambulatory assistive devices.
